Art… Food… Art… Music in the Park. All in a day’s work in the Windy City.

We’re resting up in Chicago for a day or two prior to taking the train down to Denver, where we pick up a car and start exploring.

Looking under the El along West Adams

Our hotel is just down West Adams (above), barely three or four hundred yards from the wonderful Art Institute, so we were in soon after they opened at ten this morning, feasting our eyes on everything from Mary Cassatt to Salvador Dali and Roy Lichtenstein, Frederic Remington to Georgia O’Keeffe, with a few Byzantine mosaics and ultra-modern Charles Ray sculptures thrown in. The café isn’t bad either.

The band

In the park there was a free concert by a wonderful combo from French-speaking Africa (Senegal and Morocco were mentioned): Mahmoud Ahmed, Ariz Sahmaoui and University of Gnawa.

Tonight we’re nipping round the corner to a club owned and run by blues legend Buddy Guy. They say he often comes out and plays a few numbers, depending upon how he’s feeling. Culture: it’s such hard work.
