I served a long apprenticeship. I started writing as a child, and sold my first story at 35. Ten years later I was a full-time pro. In the last 30 years I have written everything from TV drama to company histories, novels to wedding speeches. My latest project? A stage musical. So this blog is a record of one jobbing writer's never-ending attempts to keep the wolf from the door.

Devastating news. The dreadful weather has washed out the Great Yorkshire Show at Harrogate. The whole gig has ben abandoned, and they're still digging out bogged-down vehicles, tents, trailers, etc. Mike Pannnett had shipped a thousand copies of our new book (Up Beat And Down Dale) over there and was all geared up to meet our public over the four days. He had media contacts all lined up, publishing and tourism people... everything. Now, nothing. We're not the only losers, of course: farmers and livestock people, caterers, entertainers, gardeners, vendors... months and months of planning comes to nowt. Darned weather. We fully expected to make enough sales there to put us way up the best-seller charts. Oh well, back to the drawing-board.

That's such a shame. This weather is awful and relentless. Not good news for a cycling-delivery-chef either.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, I'd forgotten about Mike (& your) gig there. Well, no one died. I hear a fella did on the A68 where we were last week. It's not good.
