Well, the news is out now, officially. I had an email from John Allen Cassady on Saturday to say that his mother, Carolyn, had died in hospital. I haven't heard whether there is to be any kind of ceremony.
She has been a part of my life for nine years now, a vibrant correspondent, a good conversationalist, a generous hostess, and a fount of information on the literary movement in which she was a central figure.
Strangely, there has been very little coverage of her passing in the UK press. Plenty Stateside, but next to nothing here.
